The Mideye authentication service comprises two main components: a general-purpose authentication server (Mideye Server) and a centralised service platform (Mideye Switch). The authentication service supports user authentication with one-time passwords, both from the mobile phone and from token cards.

The Mideye Server

The Mideye Server is installed in the customer's environment, and is fully operated and controlled by the customer. It supports standard interfaces for integration with access products, such as VPN concentrators, firewalls and portals (see examples of verified integrations). End-user data (user id, password, mobile number and/or token card serial number) can be read from existing LDAP repositories (e.g. Active Directory, Sun One Directory, eDirectory or Lotus Domino). The Mideye Server requires read-only access to the directories, and existing LDAP attributes can be used. As an alternative or complement to LDAP accounts, user accounts can be created in the internal Mideye database.

The Mideye Switch

Mideye Servers are connected to the centralised service platform (Mideye Switch). The Mideye Switch maintains direct connections with mobile networks for managed real-time delivery of one-time passwords (OTPs) via the radio network. The connections with the mobile networks are continuously monitored, and each OTP is followed up to ensure reliable and timely delivery. As an alternative to delivery via the mobile network, OTPs from token cards are verified against a token server. The service includes a helpdesk for end-user support.
